Camp Dawn's Hope About Us

Camp Dawn's HopeFounded by James Garrison in 1995, Cancer Camps,Inc./Colorado's Childhood Cancer and Disabilities Camp, Inc. is a Colorado non-profit (501 C 3) in good standing with the state (please see Colorado Secretary of State letter of good standing). For the past 15 years we have been working with children, who are fighting cancer and other life-threatening diseases, by providing a much-needed retreat/camp experience for the children and their families.  Our organization pays all expenses for families or individual campers.  It is our priviledge to encourage children and families as they deal with treatment, and celebrate with them as recovery milestones are met.

We have two camp facilities in beautiful Colorado:

Camp Dawn's Hope cabinsCAMP DAWN'S HOPE, located in the mountains between the towns of Bailey and Grant, is named in loving memory of Dawn Luckenbill Garrison.  Come and join our friendly staff and make new friends with other campers and their families.  Enjoy your own cabin, which includes bathroom and kitchenette, and home cooked meals prepared in our lodge. Activities may include hiking, fishing, volleyball, basketball, horseshoes, relaxing by the river or creek, or resting on the deck or in a hammock with gorgeous views of the Rocky Mountains, aspens, and pines.  We also have a recreation center and board games, puzzles, and books in the lodge. And, of course, no camp experience is complete without a campfire and roasting marshmallows while being amazed by the night sky. This camp is for children, who are in active treatment, and their parents, siblings, and grandparents. Camp Dawn's Hope is open May - October. (See on a map

Walk-About Camp at Night Hawk RanchWALK-ABOUT CAMP AT NIGHT HAWK RANCH is located on 320 acres just outside Guffey.  Built and hosted by Tom and Dorothy Evans, our walk-about camp provides a week-long camp experience for children who have completed their cancer treatment and are ready for great outdoor fun in a beautiful mountain setting. Many activities, including horseback riding, fishing, hiking, ropes courses, canoeing, and story-telling around the campfire, are available. Wonderful accomodations and meals are provided.  Each camper will be assigned a mentor.  These mentors will include medical students or volunteers who are seasoned outdoorsmen. This camp is open June - August. (See on map)
